What To Expect From Saawariya article
Sanjay has definately been inspired by R.K. Banner and also from Subhash Ghai, writes Amit Sharma
Sanjay Leela has always been magical when it comes to the end product of his workmanship. Looking at the preview of the movie it seems that he has actually taken some inspiration from those music directors who have done nothing in life but copied the music tunes of hit numbers and mixed them all in one to give a new number.
Confusing it seems but that is what we will get to view in Saawariya. Sonam and Ranbir look great so does Sanjay in the wall papers. Sanjay has definately been inspired by R.K. Banner and also from Subhash Ghai. A mere look at sonam walking with her face covered reminds us of Jeenat of Satyam Shivam Sunderam. A scene showing Sonam half bent in Ranbir's hands with Ranbir wearing a hat reminds us once again of R.K.banner's aag and its emblem. The expression on Sonams face when she is still with her face half covered with white cloth would remind Taal.
This is just a preview friends rest will come after the film. But the only thing original is the music and also the sets. Dark but yet colorful. This is how sanjay likes to show his shades of life.

Saawariya is actually a take on
Saawariya is actually a take on Dostoevsky's short story White Nights. Visually, in terms of the set-design atleast (the bridge etc), it's very inspired by Luchino Visconti's 1957 film, White Nights (Le Notti Bianche) with Marcello Mastrioanni, Jean Marais and Maria Schnell. Visconti's black and white film is splendid even in its very apparent sentimentalism, with a heart-warming score by Nino Rota. A must-watch. Ofcourse, Saawariya is a much grander, more colourful musical but Sonam walking down the bridge between those two lamp-posts trailing the bridge at the end makes one very fondly nostalgic of Visconti's film (he is also one of my favourite filmmakers). Do try and watch it. I think the dvd is available in Bombay...
Like all Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s
Like all Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movies, nothing much is known about his next much awaited ‘Saawariya’. The only known fact is that its a movie about three generations. The youngest generation is represented by the debutante star kids, Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor, the children of actors Rishi Kapoor and Anil Kapoor respectively. Salman Khan and Rani Mukherji represent the middle generation and the senior generation is represented by the ever-so-cute granny of cinema, Zohra Sehgal and Begum Para.
Sources reveal that the movie may well be adapted from the classic short story ‘White Nights’, by the Russian author Fyodor Dostovesky. The story is about lonesome man, who becomes friends with a young girl, only to realise that he is falling in love with her. And just when he confesses his love, the girl’s estranged lover makes an appearance, leaving the man lonely again !
However, the promos do not seem to be encouraging and as enticing as OSO. OSO's music seems to be catching on with the youth. The girls may have something to croon over for Ranbir Kapoor.
But with sanjay u never know...he can create magic out of weak stiry lines, hamming cast etc. Lets wait and watch
