This Indian Fim Was Premiered at Karlovy Vary, Will It Ever Get Released Here?
A young, vibrant Mustafa Zaveri shares the experience of making his debut film, R(evolution) and its entry in the section Forum of Independents at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. Dhruvi Shah in conversation with the filmmaker
R(evolution), interestingly written, is a title that has three meanings attached to it, unveiling in the course of the film. Inspired from J. Krishnamurti’s Only Revolution, the book serves as a tool in the film for three people to meet. Their destinies are connected by a singular marked out passage in a book.
Mustafa is a regular browser of the second-hand book stalls at Fort and realized that words have the intensity to move lives, having impacted people for decades together. He had to transpire the idea into film as he believes that film is a global medium having the power to unite people the world over.
The film is the result of a personal journey, his own evolution as a person. It hopes to spread the global message of the world being one.
In fact, on his way to Europe, the captain and the co-pilot of the flight were watching his film and were so intrigued that they invited him and his father to the cockpit. The duo spent the rest of the journey discussing the film, landing while still in the cockpit. The film, about connecting with strangers, took shape for Mustafa, at the beginning of his journey itself.
At the festival, his belief was strengthened with the enthusiasm of the audience. He has been approached by several programmers of different festivals and R(evolution) is consequently going to be screened at Argentina’s Mar Del Plata Film Festival.
He, however, wishes for a theatrical release in his homeland and is keeping his fingers crossed.
