Tashan: Mindless, Illogical, Nonsense!!!
You are most welcome to watch TASHAN but please! please! Do not expect anything meaningful out of it and I promise you’ll not be disappointed, writes Yasser UsmanHey! But who asked you to take your mind with you while going to watch a movie which has got a name as meaningful as Tashan…
I am sure your doctor never prescribed you to watch the film called Tashan, it was expected to be mindless and illogical, you watched at your own sweet risk.
Tashan has got an attitude in its mindlessness. It delivers exactly what was expected from it and delivers it with incredible Tashan…
Here is a look at the story…Story? Are you really looking for one?
Okay…okay if you are then it is about a gangster Bhaiya ji (Anil Kapoor) who is fascinated by Angrezi. He wants to speak jhakaas english and employs his associate, the hot hot Kareena to look out for a tutor. Kareena hires Jimmy (Saif) and jimmy expectedly falls for her. And then…Aao twist Karen… appears the first twist in the story, hot hot kareena double crosses Bhaiya ji and the idiot boyfriend and runs away with 25 crores. Enter Bachchan Pandey (Akshay Kumar) who wants to be Bhaiya ji’s chief Sharp Shooter. Pandey ji is given the responsibility to hunt the tutor and the hottie who is busy swaying her anorexic scientific diet, size zero skeleton to the tunes of Chaliya Chaliya.
To add to the emotional quotient, Ms.Size zero also gets to shed a few tears thinking about her dead father on the banks of Hardwar. And then more twists…more turns…thoda sa emotion, bahut sa action … the film jus refuses to go low on its Tashan quotient.
Anil kapoor and Akshay Kumar steal the show. Anil Kapoor is one actor who never disappoints. It’s a nonsense role but he shines. He is the villain but gets the maximum taalis. Akshay carries the role with great tashan, be it action, comedy or emotions. But TASHAN belongs to Kareena Kapoor. She has never looked better. More oomph, more attitudes, yeh dil still maange more. Poor Saif has got the least important role but he carries it well.
The film marks the directorial debut of Vijay Krishna Acharya who is known for the slick and glossy screenplays of Dhoom 1 and 2. Tashan takes the same polished style forward. The screenplay, specially of the first half is very taut and interesting though he falters in the second half but his dialogues compensates for that. Vishal-Shekhar’s music is just average, Chaliya-Chaliya and Dil hara sounds good but more credit should be given to their choreography and beautiful picturisation.
Once my father told me that during his college days whenever their was no Dilip-Dev-Raj release, he used to occasionally watch Dara Singh’s movies but before entering into the theatre he knew very well what to expect out of the film. So friends, Romans, Countrymen! You are most welcome to watch TASHAN but please! please! Do not expect anything meaningful out of it and I promise you’ll not be disappointed.
And ya, it is going to be one of the biggest hits of 2008…no doubts about it.
Mindless…illogical…nonsense!!!

A good piece Yasser, though I’m apprehensive of Yashraj films….
I didn’t watch Dhoom and neither intend to do so…..but your review makes me feel to watch this film…
Ya agree if it’s mindless, nonsense and illogical…. it could very well become the biggest hit of the year….
Its always said that there are only seven ideas in the world, on which movies are made. Moive as an aphrodisiac of life is always good…but as meaning and time value, they mostly bored you….Well kepp it yasser…
TASHAN ke ssath likha…. ekdam Jhakkaaaas….

Completely Agree with the review of Tashan - Mindless, Illogical, Nonsense!!!
Good review.
strangely, all these new-age flicks with that typical in-your-face glossy publicity are predictable disasters.
film marketing is going places but who is taking the lead on some really substantial Indian cinema???
I really should have watched this film instead of Sirf last night. Nice review Yaseer. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Gautam, Bhavya, Vishal, Sahir n Aniruddha for your encouraging comments…And ya Aniruddha it doesn’t matter if you watch Tashan or Sirf, it looks as if every new release is competing for the crown of the ‘worst film’…but dokeep on watching films thats the only way the filmamkers understand our plight…
Take care…

Tashan? Oh! you mean the movie in which we laughed endlessly and were at last pushed outside by the strange aisle-man with a super strange LED torch in hand? I wish they let us watch till ‘The End’.
Tashan..is not so good as i think .but it is funny movie.akshay kumar was great comedian.
Tashan isn’t a good movie as it hyped before release.Actions are fine and if I am asked to mention a name then it will be Saif,he is improving day by day.
