Taare Zameen Par: Nazar Oscar Par news
First it was Lagaan, now its' Taare Zameen Par, which gives Aamir Khan a big reason to cheer. First was his debut as a producer, this one is his directorial debut. TZP has been chosen as the Indian entry for the foreign category Academy awards.
TZP had to compete with entries like Ashutosh Gowarikar's Jodhaa Akbar, Neeraj Pandey's A Wednesday, Nishikant Kamat's Mumbai Meri Jaan, Abhishek Kapoor's Rock On and Subhash Ghai's Black & White. Two Marathi films were also in the race Tingya and Valu apart from a Telegu film Gamayam.
Interestingly, Marathi film "Tingya" has won award early this year at the Indian film competition at MAMI International Film Festival, Mumbai 2008 competing against TZP. A five member international jury voted for this film, while TZP child actor Darsheel Safari got a special mention for his performance.
Indian Oscar entry is selected by Film Federation of India (FFI) which is headed by Sunil Darshan, other jury members were: Bijon Das Gupta, Aruna Raje, Ravi Kotharakara, H M Ramachandran, Sudarshan Rao, Mahesh Kothare, Jagdish Sharma, B R Ishara and Manoj Chaturvedi.
TZP will have a tough competition ahead. It will have to compete against Belgian filmmaker Bouli Lanners’s Eldorado, Uli Edel’s German film The Baader Meinhof Complex, Jan Troell’s Swedish costume drama Everlasting Moments and Finnish entry Dome Karukoski’s The Home of Dark Butterflies.

Jodha Akbar would have been a better
Jodha Akbar would have been a better choice. A film about a disability is nothing new for Hollywood. A grand costume drama would have made an impact. And if Aamir Khan has the experience of lobbying, so does Gowarikar.
I would agree that TZP is the right
I would agree that TZP is the right choice for an entry for the Academy Awards - Oscars. For the reason being that not many people are aware of what happens when someone is this problem where as there have been a lot of hysterical related movies and there would be nothing new to it No doubt that Jodhaa Akbar was an excellent movie.
I hope and this wins something there and wish AAmir Khan all the best.
