Screenwriters' Lab 2009: FAQs news
National Film Development Board (NFDC) is organizing Screenwriters' Lab 2009 in collaboration with the Locarno International Film Festival, Binger Film Lab and Entertainment Society of Goa. The deadline for sending entry is June 10, 2009.
Participants are required to submit entry form along with screenplay in classic format, Log-line, one page synopsis along with screenwriters' CV in English. A letter of intent and a DVD of previous work (if existing).
Here are answers to some of the common question that we've received from our readers regarding participation in the Screenwriters' Lab 2009.
What does screenplay in classic format mean?
Screenplay defined as scenes with dialogues. Screenplay should be complete / coherent; Length should be intended for a feature film.
Are scripts in Indian languages acceptable?
The intended feature film to be made from that screenplay can be in any language but the workshop will be conducted in English and to participate in the workshop the screenplay must be translated into English.
Binger Filmlab mentors have worked with international non-European projects on many occasions - such as scriptwriters from South African, Costa Rica, Georgia and India - and are experienced with diverse stories and traditions of storytelling.
Can I submit more than one screenplays?
Yes. A writer can send as many entries as he / she desires.
How many screenplays will be selected for the workshop?
6 screenplays will be selected from across the application pool.
Do I need to pay any fee upfront?
No fees up front. If the screenplay is sold or produced subsequent to or during the lab, applicant will have to pay Rs 1 Lakh to NFDC. If the script isn't sold, no feed will be payable.
How will it help improve my script?
Lab improves the writing efforts and trains the writers in pitching. The lab intends to address writing, storytelling as well as pitching skill of the writer.
What if I need feedback on my script after returning from Locarno?
Lab begins in Locarno and culminates at Film Bazaar, Goa. Lab will include the writing and pitching sessions, and continued interaction in between the two sessions with the mentors via email / skype on interim writing drafts.

Selected candidates get exposure to the workings of the international film marketplace and gets to work with Binger Film Lab, a prestigious film development centre. You also get a chance to pitch your screenplay to producers at Film Bazar, Goa.
