Vidyarthy ChatterjeeVidyarthy Da, (born 1948, Jamshedpur, India) as film society activists fondly call him, studied history and political science in Calcutta’s historic Presidency College where his interest in cinema as an art form and a vehicle of social investigation was born. For more than three decades he has written on documentary and drama for leading Indian publications, notably The Statesman (Calcutta/Delhi) and The Economic Times (Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta). In the past few years he has been conducting appreciation courses for budding film lovers. He has edited Motif (established 1973), a respected avant garde journal devoted to public affairs, film and allied arts for more than two decades. He has served on juries at Bombay (MIFF), Zanzibar international film festivals and IDFA, Amsterdam. He was invited to participate in film festivals at Dhaka, Mannheim and Rotterdam. He is currently researching for a book on Anand Patwardhan, India’s best known and most respected documentary filmmaker. |
Jugu AbrahamJugu Abraham is a senior film critic. He has been working with UN organizations for over 20 years as a resource mobilization specialist for international non-profit agricultural research. He was earlier a film critic with the Hindustan Times Group, New Delhi, from 1978 to 1985, and continues to write from time to time on good quality international cinema. He has traveled to some 50 countries. He has interviewed directors like Miklos Jansco, Zoltan Fabri, Roman Polanski, Lindsay Anderson, Peter Brooks, Istvan Gaal, Margarethe von Trotta, Nagisa Oshima and Shohei Imamura among others. |

He is the author of Seduced by the Familiar: Narration and Meaning in Indian Popular Cinema (Oxford, 2008). He is the founder-editor of the web journal Phalanx (www.phalanx.in) and he has written on international cinema for web sites like www.jacques-rivette.com. He is particularly fond of film noir, David Cronenberg and French cinema. |

He contributes film reviews and articles to leading Indian publications such as Mint-The Wall Street Journal and NDTV.com.
