YRF_EntertainmentAfter UTV and Viacom 18, Yash Raj Films (YRF) is making its foray into regional language cinema with a Tamil and Telegu remake of its 2010 blockbuster Band Baaja Baaraat directed by Maneesh Sharma.

The film will star South Indian actor Nani along with debutant Vaani Kapoor (who will also be seen in YRF’s next Hindi film, Shuddh Desi Romance, directed by Maneesh Sharma) in lead roles. The film is directed by Gokul Krishna and produced by Aditya Chopra.

The untitled film went on floors in May end and has completed its first schedule in Chennai. The shoot moves to Hyderabad & Mysore for the next schedule starting early July.

The remake will be followed by other remakes of films from YRF’s stable as well as original projects in south Indian languages.

Other major Bollywood studios have already entered the regional language markets. Viacom18 Motion Pictures announced its advent into regional cinema with a six-film slate for 2013 in Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi and Bengali languages.

UTV’s first project in Tamil titled Mugamoodi released in 2012.
