UNESCO to conduct Documentary workshop in Mumbai news
UNESCO is conducting an Asian Documentary Workshop in Mumbai from April 5-10 in association with The Indo-Latin American Cultural Initiative (ILACI) and Whistling Woods. The workshop will focus on documentary film making and fund raising for issues related to UNESCO’s Millenium Development goals. It will also involve the making of a collective short film in order to bring out UNESCO’s objectives.
The workshop will be conducted by the documentary filmmaker Weik Lienssen from Holland. He is a Dutch documentary filmmaker, author and photographer who has conducted earlier workshops for the United Nations. Among his films are The Year Zero (about the prophecies of the Mayans of Guatemala), The Spirits Have Gone (about people in Amsterdam who make wooden statues out of old oak trees), Polenkaravaan (some seasonal workers from Poland who search for illegal jobs), Pidlisan’s Gold (an UNESCO project about how eight transnational gold mines threaten the existence of the Igorot community in Phillipines). The venue of the festival will be Whistling Woods International Institute for Film, TV and Media, Mumbai.
