Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) has called for the immediate release of the award winning film director, Jafar Panahi from the Tehran prisons. NETPAC is an organization promoting Asian cinema and filmmakers with representatives in 29 countries.
NETPAC has urged the leaders of Iran to respect the fundamental human rights and artistic expression of its artists. Joining hands with the other world-wide organizations in demanding Panahi’s immediate release, NETPAC has expressed its support for the Iranian film maker.
Jafar Panahi was detained by security forces on March 2nd at an undisclosed location in his homeland Iran. His son had told an Iranian website that the film-maker was arrested at his home at night, together with his wife, daughter and 15 dinner guests. Security forces had allegedly searched the house and seized belongings. He was also banned from attending the Berlinale 2010 last month.
