Kamal K.M’s “I.D.” included in Rotterdam’s Bright Future selection
I.D. directed by Kamal Karamattathil Muhammed is the recent addition to the Bright Future section of International Film Festival Rotterdam 2013. Ashim Ahluwalia’s Miss Lovely and Anand Gandhi’s Ship of Theseus will also be screened in this section.
I.D. tells the story of a young graduate Charu who shares a flat in Mumbai. One day when a laborer who has come to repaint a sitting room wall collapses, she has no choice but to take events in her hand, even though the painter has no identity papers on him.
The film was screened at Busan and Abu Dhabi film festivals and won the NETPAC (Network for promotion of Asian Cinema) award for best Asian Film at International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in 2012.
The Bright Future program of Rotterdam includes seventeen world premieres, fifteen international premieres and ten European premieres from thirty-eight different countries. The 42nd edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam will be held from 23 January – 3 February 2013.
