Cinema grabs a fair share of Padma Awards news
Padma Awards, the country’s one of the highest civilian awards for this year have been anounced. Indian cinema has grabbed a fair share of the awards. Nine of the one thirty recipients of the award are well known personalities from the cinema world. Padma Awards are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri.
Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian honour has been conferred upon the famous stage and film actress Zohra Sehgal . Aamir Khan along with composers A.R Rahman and Ilaiyaraaja have been conferred the Padma Bhushan. Actors Rekha, Saif Ali Khan, Arundhati Nag and Oscar winning sound engineer Rasul Pokutty have been conferred the Padma Shri.
‘Padma Vibhushan’ is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service; ‘Padma Bhushan’ for distinguished service of high order and ‘Padma Shri’ for distinguished service in any field. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year. The awards are conferred by the President of India at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan sometime around March/ April.
