Amit Kumar’s “Monsoon Shootout” headed to Cannes 2013
Amit Kumar’s Monsoon Shootout will be screened out of competition in a midnight screening at the 66th Cannes film festival.
The film features Vijay Varma, Nawazuddin Siddiqi, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Neeraj Kabi and Geetanjali Thapa.
Set against the monsoon-lashed gritty urban landscape of Mumbai, Monsoon Shootout is an existential thriller. Guru, a rookie cop, has Shiva, a suspected gangster, in his line of fire. Guru has a moment of reckoning. Should he shoot a man whose guilt he is uncertain of? The film presents three scenarios, all departing from the decision that Guru makes.
The film is produced by Trevor Ingman of UK’s Yaffle Films and co-produced by India’s Sikhya Entertainment and Dar Motion Pictures and Netherland’s Pardesi Films in association with Arte France and developed with the support of the UK Film Council.
International sales agent Fortissimo Films picked up international rights of the film outside India in 2012.
Amit Kumar, an FTII graduate, directed the award-winning short film Bypass in 2003.
