MNIK: Houseful in Mumbai and Berlin news
As Multiplex and theatre owners back home finally refused to give in to the fear of Shiv Sena, the tickets of Shah Rukh Khan starrer My Name is Khan were sold out in five seconds at the Berlin International Film Festival. The film’s tickets were auctioned on e-Bay for 1,000 euros (about Rs.60, 000) each.
My Name is Khan will have its World premiere today at the 60th Berlin International Film Festival in ‘Out of Competition’ section. Director Karan Johar and film’s actors Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will walk the red carpet at the festival.
According to media reports, Jenny Watkinson, assigned the ‘Shah Rukh Khan department’ in the International Relations office of Dieter Kosslick, Berlin film festival director, said- ‘I’ve never seen anything like it. This year it’s expected to be even bigger than in 2008 (during ‘Om Shanti Om’).
35-40 theatres in Mumbai released My Name is Khan despite Shive Sena's diktat and people crowded the theatres to watch the film. The row had begun when the superstar angered right wing Shiv Sena by saying that Pakistani players should also participate in the Indian Premier League.
