It’s an out and out lighthearted fun movie. Beware your jaw might hurt in the end..not because of Po’s kung fu kicks but his antics, writes Hiral Sachde

Kung Fu Panda (2008)
Po the Panda , a noodle restaurant owner’s son dreams of being a Kung Fu fighter but does not have the body to go with it. By sheer quirk of fate he is chosen as the ” Dragon Warrior” to protect the dragon scroll. He is also supposed to protect the scroll from the evil and to do that he has to learn Kung Fu. A humongous task for Po but a hilarious one for the audience.

Po is fat or shall I say horizontally challenged and he remains so. It’s an irony of a sort to think of a superhero who goes huffing and puffing after climbing a few stairs. What you identify with most through the movie is the effort Po puts in to redeem himself even though at times he is scared to death. The message is simple ” Believe in yourself” without getting preachy
The script moves from one funny situation to another. If I start writing I guess I would give away the whole movie. But few scenes are worth mentioning. I especially loved the sequence where our panda Po masters Kung Fu while trying to grab a momo..And in the climax he hits out at the enemy with a ” weapon” for which he has been laughed upon throughout the movie by his peers and by the audience too.

The director and writer have done a good job especially by keeping the movie short and sweet. It leaves you wanting for more though. On the animation front its enjoyable. Watch out the picturesque scene where the Kung Fu grandmaster attains his salvation.

It’s an out and out lighthearted fun movie. Beware your jaw might hurt in the end..not because of Po’s kung fu kicks but his antics.

Jackie Chan hasn’t had enough “say” in this movie. Jack Black, Dustin Hoffman and Angelina Jolie have done most of the “talking” albeit to perfection.

Go watch it guys..
