Jodha-Akbar HAS NOT received BAFTA nomination yet: BAFTA news
Reports of Jodha Akbar receiving a BAFTA (The British Academy of Film and Television Arts) nomination in the foreign film category are incorrect, acting film awards officer of the academy, Deena Manley clarifies in an email to DearCinema.com.
"The reports that have appeared on several websites stating that Jodhaa-Akbar has received a BAFTA nomination are incorrect", says the BAFTA email.
The mail further says "The film has, along with 236 other titles, been entered for the Orange British Academy Film Awards 2008, but this is not the same thing as a nomination and should not be referred to as such."
"The nominations in most categories will be announced on 15 January. The nominations for Film Not in the English Language (which Jodhaa Akbar is eligible for) will be announced on 7 January."
Jodha-Akbar has strong chances of a nomination, however, till the time nominations are announced, any such report could only be termed as speculation. It is interesting that Indian media has publicized the reports of nominations even without verifying the facts.

Indian media has a fine tendency of such fraudulent (euphemistically called 'irresponsible') reporting, especially when it comes to matters of international importance (ie, glamour). Yes, press turns ecstatic at reports of foreign awards and no one has time to verify. Also, because the only source of information quite often is the producer or PR agents. The report on a television channel's portal that prompted us to inquire looked dicey because it quoted a screen international critic for source, who apparently called to convey his greetings to mr. gowarikar.
