Hold your breath, 13 Tzameti is here review
If you love cinema and the genre thriller, it’s a crime not to watch this film. After watching 13 Tzameti once you walk out of theatre and take a mouthful of air, do give it a thought how often you missed your breath during the movie. It’s that good and believe me I’m not exaggerating.
I won’t give any details of the plot except that it’s a thriller and it’s about a young man, to be precise 22 years old Sebastian, who follows instructions meant for someone else and reaches a place from where either you walk out with bagful of money or you’re dead. If you haven’t read anymore details anywhere else, I suggest never do that till you’ve watched the movie.
It’s the debut film of Georgian director Géla Babluani. He made this film in 2005 when he was 26 years old. The youthful adventurism is quite visible in the film. Babluani takes you to the places, I’m sure you’ve never been to.
A linear narrative, breath-holding scenes and riveting setting all adds up to the superb drama that Tzameti creates. Not to mention the brilliant background score the film opens with adds up to the drama. Surprisingly the score is not credited, let me know if you find who composed it.
George Babluani plays Sebastian in the film and believe me no one could have played the character better.
Tzameti is shot in Black and white. Images appear grainy that adds another layer of suspense to the film. Director also experiments with focus, especially plays around with it in close ups.
A fascinating film. A must watch. A very promising start Babluani, waiting for your next film.
(The film is running in Mumbai)
