François Truffaut DVDs Released in India

The DVDs were launched in Mumbai last night by French actress in the presence of a French cultural delegation.
Palador was recently in news for releasing collections of Wong Kar Wai and Akira Kurosawa DVDs apart from a World Cinema collection containing masterpieces by directors such as Ingmar Bergman.
The Truffaut collection includes five films by the director: Shoot The Piano Player, The Soft Skin, Woman Next Door, Two English Girls and Bed and Board.
The launch ceremony also marked the felicitation of the founder director of National Film Archives P K Nair, Film Critic Rashid Irani, Venture Capitalist Mahesh Mathai and Mohammed Bendjebbour, representative of French Cinema in India.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the founder and managing director of Palador Picutres Gautam Siknis promised to bring the best of world cinema in India. Palador library boasts of nearly 1,000 film titles from 20 countries. Palador is also planning to dub several of these titles in Indian languages.
François Truffaut is regarded as the pioneer of French New Wave. He started his career as a critic with influential French journal of cinema Cahier du Cinema under the mentorship of Andre Bazin. He made his first film in 1959 that’s widely considered to be based on his own life, the film won Truffaut the best director award at Cannes and was also nominated for Oscars. The next year Truffaut along with fellow Cahier du Cinema critic Jean Luc Godard scripted À bout de Souffle (Breathless) that set the stage for French New Wave.
