Film Society Stalwarts Felicitated news
Film society stalwarts were felicitated in Pune in a ceremony to mark the beginning of golden jubilee celebrations of film society movement in the country. One day session was organized by the Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI), Western Chapter in the auditorium of the National Film Archive (NFAI) in Pune.
Noted filmmaker Shyam Benegal, who is also the president of the FFSI and Paolo Minuto, President of the International Federation of Film Societies (IFFS) also participated in the function.
In his address Benegal stressed that a film can only be understood well, if it engages its viewers. While expressing satisfaction over the wider availability of world cinema films in India, he said that now film societies should work towards creating environment for discussion on cinema. He urged film societies of organize film appreciation workshops.
Paolo Minuto, urged Indian film societies to come together and play a larger role at the international forum. He commended the idea of campus film societies and urged Indian societies of share their experiences with the world. He underlined the importance of exchange of ideas between film societies across the world.
The ceremony began with the felicitation of film society stalwarts P K Nair, first director of the NFAI, Professor Satish Bahadur, the first film appreciation professor of FTII, Basu Chatterjee, filmmaker and founder of Film Forum. Film society activists Digambar Gadgil, H C Kapase, Dinkar Gangal and B. G. Nag were also felicitated.
Sudhir Nandgaonkar, general secretary of the FFSI read out a letter from the chief minister of Maharashtra who assured his full support to the movement.
A seminar on challenges before the film society movement also took place during the event. Where the means to take film society movement to new generation was discussed.
