Enlighten Launches World's Greatest Movies DVD Collection news
Enlighten, that started off as a film society about a year ago, has launched a set of ten world cinema classics. The set includes timeless masterpieces such as Bicycle Thieves, Umberto D, Shoeshine, M, Metropolis and The Rules of the Games. The DVDs were launched by "Rock on" Man Farhaan Akhtar in Mumbai on Friday.
Launch ceremony held at Crosswords bookstore in Juhu that was attended by former editor of Screen, Bhawana Somaaya, actor Shahana Goswami, Enlighten founders and chairmen Pranav Ashar and Jimmy Mistry.
Enlighten plans to release 50 titles in the series over a period of time.
Commenting on their new initiative, Pranav Ashar, Founder and Chairman of Enlighten said, "With the launch of this DVD collection, many people will have access to some of the best of world cinema classic and we'll keep adding to the collection in future."
DVDs will be available at all leading retail stores for a price of Rs.399 each.
The Collection includes the following title:
Bicycle Thieves (Italy):
The film tells the story of an unemployed worker who gets a job posting flyers in the depressed post-World War II economy of Italy.
Shoeshine (Italy):
This is heart wrenching story of two young shoeshine boys Pasquale,an orphan and his younger friend Giuseppe in the post world war 2 Italy.
CHILDREN OF PARADISE (France):
The film is set around the Parisian theatre in the 1830s and tells the story of a beautiful and charismatic courtesan, Garance, and the four men who love her.
A Matter of Life and Death (UK):
The story of a British wartime aviator who cheats death and must argue for his life before a celestial court.
Metropolis (Germany):
A futuristic film where humans are divided into two groups: the thinkers, who make plans (but don't know how anything works), and the workers, who achieve goals (but don't have the vision).
M (Germany):
A psychotic child murderer stalks a city, and due to an exhaustive investigation makes it nearly impossible for the organized criminal underground to operate. The only way they can get the police off their backs is to catch the murderer themselves.
Rules of the Game (France):
Aviator Andre Jurieux is in love with Christine, the wife of aristocrat Robert de la Cheyniest. Robert himself is involved in an affair but he is trying to break it off. A story where cordial greetings hide real feelings.
Boudu Saved from Drowning (France):
Boudu, a tramp, jumps into the Seine. He is rescued by a gentle and good bookseller, who gives shelter to him. The bookseller's maid and mistress are far from delighted, for Boudu is lazy, dirty and salacious.
I Know Where I'm Going! (UK):
A young woman trying to move up in class is en route to the island of the wealthy man she plans to marry when she is delayed due to bad weather and stuck in a Scottish community where the laird is attracted to her and she to him.A Canterbury Tale (UK):
Kent town, on the road to Canterbury is plagued by a mysterious "glue-man", who pours glue on the hair of girls dating soldiers after dark.
