Dus reasons to go for Dasvidaniya!

Dasvidaniya (2008)
Dasvidaniya (2008)
Out of the three ‘D’ releases:
Dostana, Dasvidaniya and Deshdrohi this Friday, I chose to go for Dasvidaniya. A film which revolved around the 10 wishlists of Amar Kaul (Vinay Pathak) and the interesting hide and seek of his lilly dreams before he dies of cancer in 3 months. Life consists not in holding good cards but in
playing those you hold well. Truly said. Dasvidaniyan is the story of
those beautiful cards which Amar secretly throws at his bachi khuchi
life one by one.

Excuse me if I sound too poetic here, but yes watching Dasvidaniya is like eating warm marshmallows. You will love it because there is more than ‘just eating’ to it. There is immersion of self and imagination to it.

Surely, It is a beautiful cinema which will leave you with  juvenile and tender feelings like one feels after watching ‘Life is beautiful ‘or my favourite movie
‘ children of heaven’. After watching the movie you will come out  Totally unleashed!

This makes me pen down dus reasons to go for Dasvidaniya;

Reason 1: It is a kiss on the sad face of global meltdown. When today we have several reasons to be upset and worried about, the film pumps inspiration to live for cuddled up desires within us.

Reason 2: It is layered with little ambitions which we tuck beneath our belt and forget. To remind us what life is worth and pump in the zeal to deal!

Reason 3: For a lovely composition” Mumma pyari maa” sung by kailash kher. And it doesn’t sound like a wannabe track inspired from ‘Maa’of Tare zameen pe.

Reason 4: No gyaan / philoshpies/ prophecies/sacrifices by the protagonist who is going to die soon. Very unlike Kal ho na ho’s sharukh or Anand’s Rajesh khanna.

Reason 5: Heart drenching dumbcharad scene which will make you realize how dry and plastic the kuch kuch hota hai dumbcharade stunt was.

Reason 6: To k now how the title dasvidaniya is derived. What is that sweet little Russian collection…!

Reason 7: If you are tired of the “No head - leg - stomach “kind of comedy and want to watch real life situational comedy, this one is the likely pick.

Reason 8: Short crisp editing. You will not come out of the cinema hall with a cramp in your leg for sure.

Reason 9: Not even a single character that shows up for even 5 minutes of screen is wasted .

Reason 10: And yes in the mad run of buying the tickets for box office hit Dostana, if you are unlucky…do become the lucky one by buying tickets for dasvidaniya!

    1. Enjoyed reading it. Was waiting for a review on DearCinema. Had I not been caught with my papers, I would have definately gone for it. Hope it stays in the thetres.

    2. Very well written review mallika…will surely go and watch Dasvidaniya after reding this piece. Thank God there is a Dasvidania for every Deshdrohi…

    3. Yasser, people will remember you for your sacrifice. Your contribution to the cause of cinema is as valuable as that of Mumbai Police

Nice review Mallika, planning to watch the film tonight.

    4. A film with an exotic title might not be able to draw crowds. This is the case with this film. One needs a fine balance between comedy and drama in order to make a successful film. This film clearly lacks that vision.

    5. I saw the film , the film was fabulous ….. better than dostana which was released in the same day. it should not be bothered weather the film pulled the crowds but it should be remembered that you should feel good.
A very good entertainer and 5 star.. By the way Indicine has not listed this movie on their site uptill now. ..well the same story jab site chalney lag jaatee hai to apne ku khuda samajh letey hain.

    6. Hi,

saw the movie and it was pleasure to watch. u should not miss such a movie which is simple in naration.

      surya

    7. @Mansharam

I really doubt whether you have seen this cinema before making this remark. Or are you from the Chopra’s , Johar’s camp trying to tarnish such a nice poignant movie??

    8. Don’t you think this film was way too sentimental sometimes? I always used to think our post-Y2K generation is not sentimental. That the film didn’t run well confirmed my opinion. Anyway, the film reminded me of Ikiru, Kurosawa’s Ikiru, although the stories are different. A feel good story, but too sentimental for our generation.
