Gloabal Lifetime Achievement Award to Spanish Director Carlos Saura, Marathi Fim Tingya gets best film award by International Jury, Aishwarya Rai surprises by unannounced appearance

The 10th MAMI International Film Festival came to a closing on Thursday with a gala award ceremony. Renowned Spanish director Carlos Saura was felicitated with Global Lifetime Achievement Award while Bollywood star of yesteryears Dharmendra was honoured with a lifetime achievement award.

The award ceremony was attended by celebrities, filmmakers and international representatives. Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai surprised the gathering with her unannounced appearance to hand out the awards to young winners of digital filmmaking competition.

The Chief Guest of the event evergreen "hero" Dev Anand, presented the Lifetime Achievement award to Shri Dharmendra and special awards to Gulzar, Rishi Kapoor and Hitendra Ghosh.

Chairman of the Mumbai Academy of the Moving Image (MAMI) and veteran director Shyam Benegal honored Carlos Saura with MAMI's first Global Lifetime Achievement Award while Govind Nihlani read out his citation.

“Tingya” were selected as the best Indian films judge by a special five member International Jury and also a three-member FIPRESCI (Federation of International Film Critics). The Jury Special Prize was given to the Frozen directed by Shivaji Chandrabhushan while actress Swati Sen received a special jury mention for her role as Janki in the film Antardwandwa. Special mention for Best Child Actor was given to Darsheel Safari for his role in Bollywood blockbuster Tare Zameen Par.

In the digital filmmaking competition for young filmmakers Vaapsi by Srinivas Sunderrajan won the cash prize of One Lakh as the best entry and Mumbai Half Marathon by Aishwarya won the second runner up prize of Rs. 30,000. The Third Prize was given to Live Mumbai by Ganesh Dattaram More with the cash of Rs.20,000/-.

The Dimensions Mumbai Jury also made a Special Mention of the films Patri by Akshara Prabhakar and Handful of Sky by Neha Singh.
