Countdown Begins for Asian Film Festival in Mumbai news
Asian Culture Award to Park Kwang Su, Satyajit Ray Memorial Award to P K Nair, Aamir Khan and Madhur Bhandarkar will be felicitated
The Asian Film Foundation, the organizers of 7th Third Eye Festival of Asian Cinema in Mumbai, will felicitate renowned Korean director Park Kwang Su with Asian Film Culture Award. Founder director of National Film Archieve of India, P K Nair will befelicitated with Satyajit Ray Memorial Award.
Festival will also honour Aamir Khan and Madhur Bhandarkar for their achievements. Aamir will be honoured for his directorial debut film 'Taare Zameen Par' while Madhur will be felicitated for his third national award for the best director, foundation chairman Kiran Shantaram announced in a press conference here in Mumbai.
80 films from 20 countries will be screened from October 16 to 23 at three different venues-- Chavan centre, Plaza cinema and Fun Republic.
Festival director Sudhir Nandgaonkar said eight films have been selected for the first / second feature film competition. A cash prize of USD 2000 along with a trophy will be awarded to the winner.
A cash prize of USD 1000 will be awarded to the winner of International Competition of Short Films.
Festival will screen seven film of Satyajit Ray in its Asian Masters series. Tributes will be paid to Egyptian master Youssef Chahine, who passed away in July this year. In a tribute to renowned scriptwriter Vijay Tendulkar, festival will screen films written by him such as 'Manthan', 'Ardha Satya' and 'Umbartha'.
Festival will screen six films from well known Israeli director Dan Wolman in the "Filmmaker in focus" section. Korean director Kim Ki Duk's five films will also be screened in this section. A retrospective of Japanese director Keisuke Kinoshita will also be a part of the festival.
