Vihir

Vihir (The Well) by Umesh Vinayak Kulkarni was awarded the ‘German Star of India’ at the seventh edition of ‘Bollywood and beyond’ film festival at Stuttgart, Germany. The awards were given away on Saturday night.

Umesh Kulkarni's Vihir (The Well) has been selected for the 45th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival. The prestigious festival held in the Czech republic annually will open on July 2.

Writing a review or even a critical note on Vihir is a daunting task for two reasons: one, the film has such a rich polyphonic repertoire that it is almost impossible for an untrained reviewer like me to do any justice to the film, and second, it has already been brilliantly written about by Shekhar Deshpande on the Dearcinema. Therefore, rather than a proper review recounting the basic storyline, this note will try to raise certain issues related with the thematics of the film.

Marathi film 'Vihir', produced by Amitabh Bachchan Corp Ltd (ABCL) and directed by Umesh Kulkarni, got a warm reception and ran to a full house at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Umesh and Girish have a productive and for artistic production, an ideal relationship.
