Cannes'09: Haneke Claims FIPRESCI Prize too news
Haneke and Porumboiu pick up FIPRESCI prizes The International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) jury has awarded its prizes at the close of the 62nd Cannes Film Festival.
In competition, the International Critics' Prize went to The White Ribbon by Austrian director Michael Haneke.
In the Un Certain Regard selection, honours went to Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu's second feature Police, Adjective (see review). Meanwhile, the FIPRESCI prize for the festival's parallel sections was presented to Cherien Dabis' US/Canadian/Kuwaiti production Amreeka, shown in Directors' Fortnight.
Finally, the Ecumenical Jury Prize was awarded to UK director Ken Loach's Looking for Eric [trailer, film focus], with a special mention going to Haneke's The White Ribbon.
