Call for entry: Al Jazeera’s Documentary Workshop for Asian filmmakers
Proposals are invited for Al Jazeera’s Observational Documentary Workshop in collaboration with Busan International Film Festival to consider for commissioning for broadcast in 2013.
Al Jazeera English (AJE) recently collaborated with the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Network of Documentary (AND) for this project. Every year AJE collaborates with a local film institution in each continent with a goal to discover local documentaries in key global regions.
The programme starts with a long-list of twenty-five fresh documentary filmmakers and then narrows down to a shortlisted group of ten filmmakers. The selected directors participate in a 7-day training workshop from September 30 to October 6 in Busan to develop key documentary production skills.
After the training workshop, possible commissions to be aired on AJE will be identified. After signing the contract with AJE, commissioned directors start filming their documentaries based on work prepared during their training workshop. The programme aims to create a sustainable infrastructure among participating directors as well as to broaden the documentary network for potential co-production partners in each region.
