Call for Entry: Asian Film Academy 2013

AFA 1Asian Film Academy (AFA), a program that mentors emerging filmmakers and helps establish Asian network, is open for application till April 30, 2013. Hosted by the Dongseo University, Korea, the program is organized by the Busan Film Commission and Busan International Film Festival.

Selected participants will make two documentaries during the 18 day workshop and the films will be screened at the Busan International Film Festival. The program is divided into two parts. Online Pre-production (August 1 – September 23) and the AFA (September 26 – October 13). Two scripts will be chosen from among the applicants and developed online before the AFA begins. When the workshop begins, fellows will be divided into groups of directing, production, editing, etc, as per their interest and experience. These groups will be mentored by experts in the respective fields. Master classes, film screenings and discussions on topics like screen writing, fund raising, industry and market, will be part of the workshop.

Individuals with a proof of Asian nationality and experience in directing, producing, cinematography, editing, and production design or sound in at least two short films are eligible to apply. Applicants should be able to communicate in English and must not have attended AFA before. The costs for travelling, accommodation, meal, equipment will be borne by the organisers.

Previously AFA has seen the participation of mentors like Krzysztof Zanussi (Poland), Abbas Kiarostami (Iran), Kurosawa Kiyoshi (Japan), Im Kwon-taek (Korea), Mohsen Makhmalbaf (Iran), Hou Hsiao Hsien (Taiwan) and JIA Zhangke (China).

3. Introduction of relation to film work

4. The reason why you wish to attend

5. Future plans in film work

6. A Letter of Recommendation with recommender’s contact information

7. Portfolio DVD (Must have English subtitle, if it is not in English language)
