Subhash Ghai to open chain of multiplexes under Mukta Cinemas

Subhash Ghai’s company Mukta Cinemas will open a chain of multiplexes in 2-tier cities of India. This is Mukta’s attempt to venture into the exhibition sector after production and distribution.

Ravi Gupta, CEO of Mukta Arts, said: “After production and distribution, exhibition was the next logical step for us.”

The company plans to invest Rs 50 crores in the next 3 years and plans to tie up with mall owners in Baroda, Ahmedabad and Bhopal, on a revenue-sharing model. The company plans to roll out 14 screens this financial year, with an investment of Rs 20 crore.

The distribution arm of Mukta already controls the programming of 160 single-screen cinema halls and multiplexes, including Big Cinemas, Inox, Fame and several other chains.
