No Gandu for Mumbai
Finally, there will be no Gandu for Mumbaikars. The multiple screenings of the film as part of the ongoing Naya Cinema Festival, which were scheduled for Saturday, July 30, 2011 have been stalled.
In a statement, Enlighten Film Society, the organizers of the film festival said-“We are unable to screen the film because we have been denied police protection and the theater authorities are justified to stall the screening to protect their interest.”
Censors in India are against screening of the controversial film Gandu. To evade them lawfully, Enlighten had come up with the strategy to screen Gandu in preview theatres.
“Enlighten’s position is not of senseless defiance, indulgence in counter-culture for the sake of it, or of rebellion – but of the simple-minded promotion of an artist’s voice,” the statement further says.
Gandu Circus, a band performance by filmmaker Q and team will take place at Mumbai Times café at 8:30 pm and is open to all.
