“Life of Pi” collects 3.4 crore on opening day
Ang Lee’s much awaited Life of Pi opened the Box Office in India with a gross collection of Rs 3.5 crore.
The film released in four languages: English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in 2D and 3D format on 697 screens across the country on November 23, 2012.
Starring newcomer Suraj Sharma and noted actors Irrfan Khan and Tabu, the film narrates the journey of Pi on a lifeboat in the sea with a Bengal Tiger.
Life of Pi, which opened on the same day as Breaking Dawn Part II, the last of the Twilight Saga, collected $10.5 million at 4,500 screens in China, $2.2 million at 165 locations in Taiwan and $1.4 million at 96 sites in Hong Kong.
The film opened the on-going 43rd International Film Festival of India on 20th November, 2012 in Goa.
