Dev Anand to inaugurate 8th Pune International Film Festival
Legendary actor Dev Anand will inaugurate the 8th edition of the Pune International Film Festival(PIFF) that begins on Thursday. Director Shubhash Ghai will be the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the festival. ‘About Elly’ directed by Asghar Farhadi of Iran will be the opening film.
Jeevan Gaurav which is the lifetime achievement award of PIFF will be conferred upon renowned artists of yesteryear Rajesh Khanna and Dr. Shriram Lagoo. The festival will have three categories namely International Films, Marathi Films and Student Films. PIFF will introduce ‘Sachin Dev Burman international award for creative music and sound’ for individuals who make a significant contribution in the field of music this year. The first recipient of this award would be music composer Pyarelal of the famous Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo.
The film festival would be the official film festival of the Government of Maharashtra from this year, as 2010 coincides with the golden jubilee year of the state. Around 160 films from 48 countries will be screened at the weeklong event.
