Cinematheque Hamburg to host Anurag Kashyap Retrospective

By NewsDesk • Published on July 10, 2012

Cinematheque Hamburg will host a Retrospective of Anurag Kashyap from 11-16 July, 2012 at the Metropolis Cinema, Hamburg.

Under the label ‘Pioneers of Indian Cinema’, Metropolis Cinema will be screening five films directed by Kashyap, who will also attend the occasion as the guest of honour. The retrospective will open with the film Dev D followed by the screening of both parts of Gangs of Wasseypur, That Girls in Yellow Boots and Black Friday.

Notable filmmaker Fatih Akin of Turkish-German origin will introduce Kashyap and his works.

Rita Baukrowitz, Head of International Programming at Cinematheque Hamburg commented, “Under the title of ‘Daring Pioneers of Indian cinema’, the Metropolis cinema is now presenting the works of outstanding Indian directors. This time the focus is on present-day cinema and on Anurag Kashyap, the pioneer of the new independent movement within the Hindi film industry. In his films, Anurag Kashyap draws special inspiration from the works of the Hamburg film-maker Fatih Akin – a feeling of admiration that is mutual. We are looking forward to an interesting cinema discussion between Fatih Akin, Anurag Kashyap and Prashant Nair”.
