50 Years of Film Society Movement in India to be celebrated news
The Central Executive Committee of the Federation of Film Societies of India met in Mumbai recently to chalk out the Golden Jubilee celebrations of 50th Year of Film Society Movement.
According to the newsletter of the federation, Shyam Benegal, the President, said "it is necessary that all the film societies in the country should meet and take a view of the movement during the year-long celebrations Accordingly, the Central Executive Committee decided that an All India Film Society Meet should be held at Kolkata, the birthplace of Indian film society movement."
Benegal also emphasized the need to bring film societies to the campuses of universities and colleges.
The Central Office of the federation plans to publish a book on 50-years of film society movement in India and also produce a half an hour digital flm on the journey.
The FFSI Golden Jubilee Year will begin in December, 2008 and the Central Council will meet in August at Bangalore to decide the final programme of celebrations. Suchitra Film Society will host the meeting in Bangalore.
Satyajit Ray was the founder of the federation.
