11th Osian's Cinefan: Dates Annoucned news
The eleventh edition of Osian's Cinefan Film Festival will run from Friday, 17 to 26 July 2009 in New Delhi at the Siri Fort Complex. Indian New Wave Filmmaker Mani Kaul has been made the Director General of the festival.
Festival will have the following sections:
InCompetition-
The InCompetition Section will have fifteen films from the Indian, Asian and Arab World, selected in terms of their individual and unique vision, wherein the first, second or third eligible film of the filmmaker will compete.
InDialogue
The InDialogue Section will blur genres and cross boundaries as they establish a dialogue on cinematic resonances between films from Indian-Asian-Arab countries and the rest of the world.
Short Films-Tributes
NewStream Cinema
This section will present a series of talks and Q&As on innovations and expanding boundaries visible in Indian Films today. Directors, actors and technicians will engage with the audience and help them explore anew the world of cinema.
Osian's-Cinefan's love of cinema from across the world will be taken forward by Mani Kaul, eminent Indian Filmmaker now at the helm of Osian's-Cinefan, along with Joint Directors Indu Shrikent and Latika Padgaonkar.
Mani Kaul, the new Director General has been quoted saying in a release, "irrespective of its independent or mainstream origin we will strive for a dispassionate portrayal of new and bold cinema. Our programme will range from uncompromising experimentation in films, to an archival kind of cross reference between cinemas of the world, to an articulation of an emerging, thinking NewStream cinema in India"
According to an Osian's release "The 11th OCFF will be the launching pad for a new festival for the Arts and culture, Jashn-Osianama, that will bring together select masterpieces from the Osian's Archive and Library Collection. Enigmatic ways in which ideas about violence and non-violence have coded creative thinking underlying all kinds of artistic expressions, be it architecture, art, cinema or socio-ecological thoughts will be explored anew. Jashn-Osianama will begin at the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai on Friday, 26 June 2009 and close after a week of celebration on Thursday, 2 July 2009. In New Delhi it will be held at Visual Art Gallery, The India Habitat Centre and Siri Fort in conjunction with Osian's-Cinefan Film Festival."
OCFF is organized by Osian's Connoisseurs of Art in association with the Government of the NCT of Delhi.
